Red Cross CPR Training Program Overview

!±8± Red Cross CPR Training Program Overview

This article provides an overview of American Red Cross CPR training programs that are available in various places, including San Diego and the Imperial Counties, including online channels. It is claimed that CPR and first aid training by the Red Cross has several advantages including reasonable costs, convenience, and consistency of the courses at the different venues throughout the US. The courses are also complete when it comes to emergency preparedness because they do not only include cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques but also training in automated external defibrillator (AED), first aid, community disaster education and blood-borne pathogens. Moreover, American Red Cross CPR training programs are developed by experts and conducted by certified instructors.

The Red Cross also provides CPR training online and this is known as the Blended Learning First Aid/CPR/AED Program. In this program, the first part of the training is conducted online. In the second part of the program, the students go to the training classroom and a certified instructor provides hands-on training to the participants. An essential advantage of this kind of Red Cross CPR training program is that students can work on the lessons at their own pace until they reach the second part of the program. Participants can also opt to take a short cut in the online courses and to test out of lessons.

Meanwhile, an important item that participants of the emergency preparedness programs is the disaster supplies kit, which every home and office must have. The components of the kit can be divided into six basic categories and these are food, water, first aid kit, clothing and bedding, emergency supplies, tools and special items. Some of the basic components of the first aid kit are gauze pads, triangular bandages, adhesive bandages, sterile dressing, gauze bandage, alcohol-based hand sanitizer, adhesive tape, cohesive bandage, antiseptic wipes, anti-bacterial ointment, tweezers, cold pack, scissors, non-latex gloves, and a CPR breathing barrier. The food supply should be for three days or more and these should be non-perishable food, food for infants, vitamins, high energy foods, staples, canned juices, canned foods, and comfort foods.

Red Cross CPR training is vital during emergencies because CPR is a procedure where you can save the life of someone who has gone into cardiac arrest. In this condition, oxygenated blood is not available to the brain and cause brain damage within four minutes. After six minutes, the victim may already be dead. Because emergency response teams are likely to require a longer time to reach the person, CPR is required to help him or her gain time before help arrives. Meanwhile, for homes and offices that are equipped with the AED, the Red Cross also provides important training on how to use this device to stop the arrhythmia in the victim. AED is used when the heart is still active but is in ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia. If there is no cardiac activity, the AED cannot be used and CPR must be utilized first to establish a shockable rhythm that the AED could successfully treat.

!±8± Defibrillator Training

Sophisticated medical equipment requires trained personnel to operate them. In case of life saving equipment like defibrillators it becomes all the more important for the persons handling such gadgets to be highly competent with them. Anyone can be trained to administer the shock that could save a life. The most realistic CPR-Defibrillator Training is the one, which provide the best- prepared responders. The use of externals defibrillators is taught in advanced cardiac life support courses. Trained non-medical personnel can then use these electronic machines to treat a person in cardiac arrest

The American Heart Association specializes in AED training with over 250,000 providers trained every year. American Red Cross annually trains more than 8.5 million people in vital lifesaving skills, including AED, CPR, and first aid. Medic First Aid International can get in touch with a local CPR and defibrillator instructor to satisfy training needs. They have easy-to-use, low-stress approach to training. This gives trainees, confidence to respond in an emergency. The training programs are continually updated to reflect the latest standards and techniques.

CPR 2010 New Guidelines - What You Need to Know About It

!±8± CPR 2010 New Guidelines - What You Need to Know About It

For the longest time, the "Good Samaritan Act" of saving lives has been greatly forgotten. While more and more people are suffering from Sudden Cardiac Arrest, there are only few bystanders who are willingly able to take the risk and save lives. To this end, the AHA or American Heart Association feel the need to simplify and revised the long standing A-B-C guideline of CPR.

If from before we always follow the traditional sequence of A-B-C or Airway, Breathing, Circulation, it has been modified to C-A-B or Chest Compression, Airway, Breathing. According to AHA, great minutes are being lost while following the traditional sequence of A-B-C due to hesitancy of giving resuscitations or lack of proper training and knowledge on how to perform proper CPR procedures. Bear in mind that seconds are of great importance when we talk about CPR, 10-15 seconds wasted can mean irreversible death.

To this new CPR guideline, it is advised to start chest compression as soon as the victim is found unresponsive or gasping with air. Compared to the traditional A-B-C technique, the new C-A-B will not waste any single moment as the first cycle of chest compression is immediately given following Airway, Breathing interventions. The stand of AHA on this issue is indeed very much practical and convenient as one no longer need to worry about how to properly open the airway of the victim or how to give complicated full breathes. For this, expect that more and more people will now practice the "Good Samaritan Act" rather than uncertainly helping the victim.

Following significant changes to the new CPR guidelines, the algorithm "Look, Listen and Feel" has also been removed. According to AHA, this obsolete algorithm is so time consuming and it wastes significant effort to revive the patient. Instead of checking the pulse of the victim, which most healthcare professionals find it very difficult and tricky, CPR should be started with 30 full compressions rather than giving 2 ventilation's. This act suggests shorter delay and full support to the heart. However one must bear in mind that proper coordination should always be employed at its best, calling the paramedics should be initiated as soon as possible.

AED units should also be used in line with this new set of CPR guidelines. If an AED unit is available on the area, one should make use of it to employ high quality resuscitation far from the very subjective "hands-on" chest compression. AEDs are very objective and they give maximum results all the time, not to mention that they also provide helpful guide for those untrained respondents.

There's also a new rule with regards to chest compression. The 1 1/2 inch depth rule has now been modified to 2 inches. AHA also noted the proper placement of hand when giving chest compression as well as minimizing all delays or pauses. These changes are made to give victims high quality chest compressions that are both effective and uncomplicated.

With this new 2010 CPR guidelines, rest assured that saving lives are now more people-friendly and legally caring. Today we don't have to think twice before performing some life saving techniques as the process had become simple and uncomplicated. With the help of new high tech life saving equipments such as AEDs and simplified version of CPR, more and more lives will be saved easy and effective. Saving lives should never be complicated but rather simple and efficient, thanks to the new CPR guidelines.
